The flowering period starts in mid-April and lasts until the beginning of May.
During this period we will observe various different stages:
– IFlower Bud induction and differentiation; the amount of buds will depend mainly on the winter rains. If the winter is dry, the number of buds will be fewer.
– Flower bud formation s
– Flowering (anthesis), pollen release and pistil growth after pollination. The flowers are mainly wind-pollinated and self-pollinating.
If the rainfall is high during this period, pollination will be difficult. The rains will cause a decrease in pollen, and that will make plant fertilisation impossible.
Fruit set and fruit and embryo development. After pollination, the fruit will begin to grow until it becomes an olive. The temperature during this period is crucial for all of the pollinated flowers to grow. Otherwise, nature will select only the flowers that the olive trees will be able to develop throughout the entire cycle.
– Fruit and embryo fruit set and development.
The entire process takes no more than one or two weeks, so as well as the rains, the climate conditions during this period will also be essential and crucial for the next crop.
This year, the flowering period is going well, so there are plenty of flower buds on the trees, many of them already opened and pollinated, and some fruits have already started setting.
Although we experienced high temperatures for a few days, the weather in the month of May is mild, so the results should be balanced.
The entire process takes no more than a week or two, so in addition to the rains, the weather conditions during this period will also be essential and crucial for the next harvest.
